Valentine's Day for singles

As couples are enjoying Valentine's Day together, there are many singles hoping to end their lonely days as soon as possible. As the number of single women above 28 and single men older than 30 is on the rise in China, Zhang Ni takes us a look at how these singletons are searching for love.

Yu Bo, boss of a culture company in Beijing, is going to be her own boss today -- by spending Valentine's Day alone.

Yu Bo, singleton, said "Just like everyday, I may go to a movie or something."

28-year-old Yu runs a company of 100 employees. But she still hasn't found her Mr. Right. She says the majority of her friends - who are the same age as her - are single, and they feel ok with it. But she hopes she won't be alone for next Valentine's Day, as there are many pressures on her as she's single.

Yu Bo said "The pressures mainly come from my parents. They want me to get married as soon as possible. But our generation, being born in the eighties, have very different points of view. We want to take more time to figure out what we want. There are two opinions inside me and I'm trying to not let both sides down."

A Chinese micro blog website, which young Chinese frequent, launched an official campaign yesterday called 'Save Your Single Friend'- bloggers take photos of their single friends or themselves if they're single, and post them on the Internet, in order to help them find their right ones. And within half of the day, over 4700 photos have been collected. Not sure how many of them can actually find their special one through this, but it shows that being single is not what young Chinese are satisfied with.

But some are quite satisfied. 32-year-old Zhu Yue, who works at a gallery, says he really enjoys being single.

("When you go to the movies tonight will you be jealous about other couples?")

Zou Yue said "Not at all. I'll be happy that I'm surrounded by love. And if you have love in your heart, everyday is your Valentine's Day."

According to a report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the proportion of Chinese getting married between 20 and 24 years old has been dropping since 2005, while marriages between forty-somethings are increasing. In cities, the average age of getting married is 2 years older than the national average. So taking more time before settling down appears to be becoming a new trend.
